Thera Skin Development Background

Continuous Improvement of Laser Treatment Method

High-output laser's generalization

Many hi-output Lasers including He-Ne laser, CO2 laser are being used widely in hospitals in an attempt to treat skin disease by taking advantage of the greater effectiveness in treatment by irradiating the unique pulse with the specific disease.

High output laser's evolution

As the result of an effort to develop a new type of laser, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) laser was developed a few years ago to exceed the old-type lasers' limit. Each old-type laser has one pulse corresponding to only one disease, so to treat different skin diseases, different lasers had to be used at different times making it in convenient for patients. The IPL laser irradiates several pulses to treat different skin diseases at the same time.

Intensified research on pulse and laser

Research to find more effective pulses for specific diseases has been increasing. New pulses which show better treatment effect have been found through the active investment of research and development around the world. This has resulted in new lasers. An example is the high output laser using the 420nm Blue Light Pulse. Research and test reports have verified that the 420nm Blue Light Pulse is the best in exciting Porphyrin that plays a role in killing P.acne (Propionibacterium acnes), the major cause of acne.

Appearance for home-use device

To provide more convenience to the contemporary individual who is suffering from various skin diseases, new skin therapy equipment for home-use are being invented for the market. SM Medical has produced the Thera Skin, anew home-use equipment for acne treatment which uses the 420nm Blue Light Pulse. This is the only home-use skin treatment equipment on the market to use this wavelength.

Research and Application

Research and application on 420nm Blue Light Pulse Blue Light Pulse between 405~420nm, especially 420nm was demonstrated as the most effective pulse compared to other pulses in acne treatment through tests and papers in many countries.

  • Journal of Dermatological Science 30 (2002) 129~135
  • FEMS Immunology and Medical Microbiology 1460 (2002) 1~8
  • Cosmetic & Laser Ther 2003: 5: 111~116
High output acne treatment device using 420nm Blue Light Pulse was invented by an Israeli company with FDA approval. Blue Light Pulse, so called 'actinic' range peaking at 420nm, is verified as an essential element for the survival and good health of fish, corals and invertebrates.

Test Results

Home-use Thera Skin development adopting 420nm Blue Light Pulse Based on many clinical papers and test results demonstrating the excellence of 420nm pulse in acne treatment, SM Medical Co., Ltd has developed a new product, Thera Skin, for home-use for the first time in our country so that people can use it on daily basis at any place.

Treatment Principle

If you directly irradiate 420nm Blue Light to acne, Porphyrin is photo-excited and mixed with Oxygen in the air forming Singlet Oxygen which kills P.acne.

Characteristics

Blue Light (420nm)

Thera Skin adopted 420nm Blue Light Pulse which many research papers are stating that it is more effective than Red Light(630~670nm) in exciting Porphyrin which destructs P.ance.

"Visible light in the blue range induce a photo-destructive effect on P.acnes that may take part in the decrease in acne severity in summer, Blue-violet(405~420nm) has been shown to be 10 times more effective than red light(630~670nm) in triggering excitation of coproporphyrines". (J Cosmetic & Laser Ther 2003: 5: 111~116).

Moderate output

A high capacity battery is used in Thera Skin to maintain the higher output for effective treatment.

19 LED's

We use 19 LED's to cover wide area and intensify the effect.

Built-in battery

The high capacity battery is built in allowing for longer use between battery charges.

Safety

Blue Light Pulse reacts to only Porphyrin without damaging other skin tissue and there are no side-effects. Irradiation frequency doesn't affect the safety since the output is properly adjusted for home-use.

Convenience

The Thera Skin is portable in size, and the user can control it with one hand due to the light weight.

Simplification

The Thera Skin is easy to use with simple light irradiation and time adjustment functions.

Effect

P.acne destruction

420nm Blue Light Pulse is inducing photo-excitation of Porphyrin and excited Porphyrin kills P.acne resulting in acne treatment.

Holding-back of reoccurrence

The acne treatment by destructing P.acne is prolonging or preventing reoccurrence of acne.

Time-saving Users can treat with Thera Skin any time or any place!
